Small World is going green! We believe part of caring for your children is caring for the world they are growing up in, so we are excited to announce that Small World is going green. We are being assisted by the Eco-Healthy Child Care and Kids Program at the Child Care Council, Inc. to help us improve the environmental health of our program. Child Care Council staff have been out to Small World to provide us with information about green living and stewardship. Adopting a lifestyle that is beneficial to, neutral to, or minimally impact on the environment is what we are working toward.
In order to achieve this, we are recycling newspaper, cardboard, office paper, mixed paper, bottles, cans, aluminum foil, and plastics. We are also taking batteries, household paints, fluorescent light bulbs, concentrated household cleaners, pesticides, and electronics to hazardous-waste collection facilities. To minimize packaging, we are purchasing bulk food and recycled, refillable products, in bulk. To save paper, we communicate electronically as much as possible.
We have met the required Eco-Healthy standards an are now just waiting for our certification. We will be invited to, and recognized at the Greentopia Festival on September 17th and 18th, at the High Falls.
